Realistic Expectations

I haven't wrote anything in a while and wanted to touch on setting yourself up for REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS! Ladies, when you go to the gym and meet your trainer for the first time you set "GOALS", correct? Whether you want to loose 5, 10, 20 lbs., you know it's not going to happen in a session. It took time to gain it, and you know it takes hard work and time to loose it, am I right? Everything from changing your daily routine, your diet, etc.

So the same idea goes for hair. When you are asking to go from dark to light, depending what's on your hair previously, it more than likely is not going to happen in one session. Here's why.

Your hair starts at a level such as the chart below: Each level shows what it's underlying pigment is once exposed from lightening.

Our job requires chemistry. Breaking down the color wheel, to tone out unwanted pigments such as red, red orange, orange, and yellow. You know the colors everyone wants to avoid like the plaque. LOL. We also consider your hair texture, is it coarse, fine, frizzy, curly, short, long, previous color (we have to fight thru). All of these things do make a difference of how soon we can achieve your overall goals. As much as we wish we can take a magic wand and give you the color you want overnight, it isn't possible my friends!

Please keep this in mind, once lightener has been applied on the hair, even with toners they fade out and can become "brassy". Color in itself fades overtime after washes, sun exposure, heat tools, hard water, and not using proper professional hair products. When you start to see those pigments exposed it's time to go back to your hairdresser for another service. Toners/glosses generally last 6-8 weeks depending on your at home care routine.

Let's take our girl Khloe Kardashians photos below. She is my favorite reference! If you look at every picture you can see the unwanted "warm" undertones, with the exception she has a toner over each of them to help cancel a majority of the unwanted tones. They are still there but it's not screaming in your face RED. The last photo she FINALLY became blonde AF. Clearly you guys this didn't happen in one session. She enjoyed the process. To be honest do you really want a hairdresser to tell you yes they can do it in one session? I wouldn't. Consider this, is the integrity of your hair more important? Or the unrealistic idea of color?

I'm a hairdresser that personally likes warm and neutral tones. It gives color to your skin, looks brighter, and lasts longer. "Ashy" tones to me tend to look dull and hollow after a while. Not saying this is a bad thing for those who like it. This is my personal professional opinion of what I like to do.

So in closing this up, hair goals are like going to the gym. You have to have a healthy diet > Using professional products. Setting goals > Setting realistic expectations. Budget for your trainer > Budget for your hair needs! I hope this sheds some light on creating your hair goals!
