Q:  How did you find Val? 

So I had just moved to Austin, TX about a month before, & I was getting pretty tired of my current hair so I knew I needed to find a new hair stylist ASAP.  I wanted a big change, so I wanted someone I could trust. I looked around at a couple salons around town, creeped on hairstylists' and salons' on Instagram to find something close to what I was looking for and an aesthetic that seemed to match mine. I came across Raven Row Salon, I was really into the look of the hair that they were doing there, so I gave them a call, and I was set up with Valarie who was just accepting new clients after she just moved from Las Vegas right before I set up my appointment! After our initial consultation, I was super confident in her and the look I was going for!

What's your favorite part about getting your hair done? 

I just really love the undivided time where I get to focus on just one thing - my hair. It's a time to just take care of one part about me, and I love the creative expression I get to have with that time. Being able to talk about the look I'm going for with someone that gets IT. It's refreshing! And honestly, it simply just makes me happy. Hair is a big part of my personality & persona - and the way that people perceive who I am - so getting my hair done gives me a chance to really think about that & take care of myself in a way that just buying makeup or clothes can't do.
 

Why would you refer Val?

Valarie has a undeniable talent that I really just don't see that often on social media or even in my past experiences with other stylists. Combine that with a drive to learn more, passion for her craft, an amazing creative energy, & a charming personality - you just really have a person that you can trust will not only make your hair look really good, but also make you feel amazing as a person every time you're around her. I feel good every time I a walk out of the salon after being with Valarie. There's a reason why people are travelling from Vegas & San Francisco to have their hair done by her, she has a rare balance of amazing qualities that make her truly the best stylist I've had in my life.

Who's your favorite Disney character? 

The cat Thomas O'Malley on Aristocats for sure. He's like the cool cat that brings them to that jazz club in the movie where they all start singing "Everybody Wants To Be A Cat" (also the best Disney song). I always thought he was the coolest when I was little and it's who I wanted to be when I grew up….except you know…a human instead.

Tell me about Cat Jaguar + why people should see you perform?

So I'm in a band called Cat Jaguar - I'm the singer (+ I play a the keys on a few songs). We're a trio based out of Austin! I would say the best way to describe who we are and what our music is all about is glitz, glitter, gold, and dancing. I'm such a maximalist at heart, and I think that’s a good way to describe how we are on stage! Honestly, I think we're such a fun band to see live because we don't take ourselves too seriously, but we put in a lot of work to make everything look just shiny and fun and make you want to look at us + make the music something you can dance to. There's a lot of dancing going on, a lot of ridiculous clothes & a whole lot of gold, feathers, sequins, glitter & anything else that just looks shiny. My whole goal is to entertain and to make the whole show as fun as possible for the audience, because really, that's who it all comes down to in the end. You can find us playing all around Austin & we'd love to see you come out!
